The 2nd Mine Rescue Competition, held in Koza Gold Operations-Bergama Gold Mine in 2022, was another important event that reinforced safety and rescue awareness in the Turkish mining sector. Following the success of the first competition, this second organization was organized with the aim of improving the experience of mine rescue teams and further advancing their preparations for emergencies.
The competition was held with the participation of rescue teams from mining operations across Turkey. The teams demonstrated their skills in more difficult scenarios, together with the experience they gained in the previous competition. Each team was meticulously evaluated in terms of speed, efficiency and compliance with safety standards. The competition became a milestone in developing a safety culture in the mining sector and once again emphasized the importance of being prepared for mining accidents.
The Mine Rescue Competition has provided valuable lessons to both participants and the industry about saving lives and ensuring safety in difficult conditions, and has contributed to the future development of the industry. ANAGOLD MINING ERT TEAM
Anagold Mining ERT team was established in November 2010 with 12 people and completed its first training from AMRC company from Australia.
The team, which completed the Confined Space and Fire training in the first stage, completed the Chemical Spill, High Rescue and In-Vehicle Trapping training in the second stage after the completion of the missing rescue equipment. Under the leadership of Erzincan Disaster Directorate teams, Chemical, Radiological, Nuclear, Biological intervention and Search and Rescue trainings were completed and certified. In 2012, the number of the team was increased by 120% to 26 people. We come together at periodic breaks and provide refresher training in the ERT Training Hall. We have a special hall where all emergency equipment is stored and maintained. In addition; Our ERT team, which currently has 62 people, is kept ready by conducting planned and unplanned drills. In 2021, 24 incidents were intervened, 20 of which were on-site and 4 were off-site.
The team, which has already completed residential rescue training, will have their next planned training in underwater search and rescue. The ERT team is kept ready for emergency response 24 hours a day with a 6×4 fully equipped fire truck, a 4×4 rescue vehicle and a 4×2 lead fire truck, selected from personnel working in shifts.
ÇAYELİ COPPER MINE – MINE SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
Çayeli Bakır İşletmeleri Mine Rescue Team and Rescue Station was officially established on December 18, 1995, with the approval of the General Directorate of Labor with the number 2195.53-5. Our Mine Rescue Team consists of 35 people and is trained and certified according to the requirements of the Canadian Ontario Mine Rescue Training System. Çayeli Bakır operates in the north-east of Turkey and since there are not many mining companies around, it has designed its emergency response capacity to be self-sufficient.
Our Mine Rescue Team is experienced in responding to mining accidents as well as natural disasters and industrial accidents.
Our team actively participated in search and rescue activities after the Van Erciş earthquake in 2011 and was able to rescue two people alive from under the rubble after long hours.
DEMİR EXPORT RESCUE TEAM
Established in May 2015, Demir Export Rescue Team consists of a total of 68 people and was created to provide support when needed with one rescue station and 20 BG4 Plus closed circuit rescue breathing apparatus. The rescue team keeps itself up to date with the trainings given by the expert staff it attends and is prepared for possible situations by carrying out its work in the fitness center.
It has gained competencies to assist all around Turkey by carrying out preparedness work in coordination with AFAD for situations such as mining accidents and natural disasters.
EFEMÇUKURU GOLD MINE – MINE SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
The Efemçukuru Gold Mine Search and Rescue team, established in 2011, consists of a total of 38 people. Team members who have completed their training according to the Australian education system have “RII30709 – Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue” level training.
The team, which keeps its knowledge and skills up to date with refresher trainings throughout the year with 3 expert trainers within the team, has responded to many emergencies at national and regional levels, especially the Soma and Ermenek mine accidents and the Izmir earthquake.
ESAN – MINE SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
Founded on 05.07.2011, Esan Underground Mine Search and Rescue Team consists of 54 team members in total. All members have received rescuer credentials by attending trainings given by the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprise Rescue trainers. The team, which is experienced in search and rescue and accident response, regularly receives development trainings every 6 months.
Esan Mine Search and Rescue Team is developing every year with trainings that will further increase their competencies.
KOZA GOLD ENTERPRISES INC. – MINE SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
The Koza Gold Operations Inc., whose foundations were first laid in 2002, is ready for duty in a possible emergency with a total of 142 Mining Search and Rescue personnel in 4 provinces and 5 locations, 58 of whom have underground search and rescue competence and 84 of whom have surface search and rescue competence, together with the new enterprises established after the Ovacık Gold Mine Search and Rescue Team, respectively, Gümüşhane / Mastra, Eskişehir / Kaymaz, İzmir / Çukuralan and Kayseri / Himmetdede Gold Mine Search and Rescue Teams.
LİDYA MINING – MINE INTERVENTION TEAM
Our Mine Intervention Team was established in Balıkesir Gediktepe Mine Operations area within our group company Polimetal Mining, which started its first mining operation in November 2021. The team currently consists of 2 trainers and a team of 16 people and is prepared to perform duties against possible emergencies with fire response, search and rescue, chemical spill response, rescue in vehicle accidents, first aid training and additionally the competency development activities required by operational needs.
POLYAK EYNEZ A.Ş.-RESCUE CENTER
The rescue center (Mine Rescue Center) was established within the company in April 2015. The team is managed by the Rescue Manager with 32 years of experience (14 years as a rescue manager). The rescue team is experienced in underground dam opening and closing practices, drills, etc. It also took part in rescue efforts during the Izmir Earthquake in October 2020.
Currently, there is a search and rescue team of 87 people in the business. There are 15 Drager brand closed circuit breathing apparatus (BG-4) in the Rescue Center. Rescue personnel are trained in Hazardous and Very Hazardous Work Rescue, followed by practical development training once every 6 months.
TÜMAD MINING INDUSTRY AND TRADE INC. – TÜMAD SEARCH AND RESCUE (TAK) TEAM
The TAK Team, established in May 2019 at the Lapseki Operation, consists of 24 rescuers.
The TAK Team, established in March 2020 at the İvrindi Operation, consists of 40 rescuers.
The TAK Teams in both operations have received training in search and rescue, fire response, chemical spill response, vehicle accident response, and have gained the necessary search and rescue competencies for possible emergencies and natural disasters, as they are fully equipped for intervention.
TURKISH COAL ENTERPRISES-GARP LIGNITES ENTERPRISE MINE SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
TKİ Institution Tunçbilek Rescue Station was established in 1948. The rescue station serves the Tunçbilek basin and mining operations in the country.
Rescue workers trained at the rescue station participate in rescue efforts in accidents occurring within the country.
Currently, 60 rescuers are working at the Rescue Station located in the Ömerler Underground Pit area. The rescuers are trained by the Institution’s experienced trainers.
